Top 30 Star Wars Beards

In honor of No Shave November, we decided to provide our ranking of the top 30 beards in Star Wars! We gave ourselves a couple parameters:

  • The character has to appear on screen. We need a clear visual of the beard in question. Sorry to bearded characters who have yet to jump from the page to the screen.
  • Live action characters are given more credit than animated characters. Live action characters have to (sometimes) grow their beards, are limited by physics in the appearance of their beards, and have to do maintenance to keep their face warmers looking snazzy. Animation can do whatever they want with angles, points, and defying gravity and always have it look on point.
  • Alien, non-humanoid species are harder to gauge. There’s a lot of aliens with impressive hair, but is that typical of their species? Or are they extra attentive to their locks? Some of our characters have biology giving them a leg-up, so we took that into account when crafting the list.
  • Recognition. There are probably some great background characters or people who pop up in one or two TV episode that have impressive beards. With billions or trillions of beings in this galaxy, we can’t account for everyone. The characters of this list are named in movie credits or appear in more than one TV episode. Or are listed in the Star Wars.com official databank.

There are some spoilers ahead for Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and Rebels. You have been warned.

Without further a-“do,” the ranking.

  1. Luke Skywalker – Luke’s beard is well balanced between rugged and civilized. It gives this Jedi Master additional gravitas. Even his younger, flashback beard is impeccably kept. The Force is strong with this face warmer!

  1. Baylan Skoll – This beard is a true work of art! It is fuller than full, trimmed, and focused. It is the perfect way to signal to us that Baylan has been through some tough things, but he is strong and knows what he wants. Who knew a beard could say so much?

  1. Obi-Wan Kenobi – So many beard variations for this Jedi Master! In each iteration, it’s a full beard that Obi-Wan brings attention to with his wise-man-thinking-beard-stroke. Like fine wine, this beard just gets better with age.

  1. Gov. Sio Bibble – Gov. Bibble’s beard is a little more on the goatee side, but it is on point. Makes sense for the governor from Naboo to take a little extra time in the morning styling that beard into perfection.
Sio Bibble
  1. Ki-Adi-Mundi – Similar to Gov. Bibble, Ki-Adi-Mundi has a wavy, wispy goatee-like beard that looks so soft. A+ moisturizer game, Master Jedi.
Ki-Adi-Mundi
  1. Jan Dodanna – General Jan Dodonna served as the military leader of the Rebel base on Yavin 4. His beard is good length and good shape. Given the humidity of Yavin 4, this beard is extra impressive!

  1. Capin Harinar – Another military leader on Yavin 4. Maybe he and Dodanna shared tips or product? His style is a little wilder and a little more unkempt.
Capin Harinar
  1. Count Dooku – Classic villain, classic villain beard. Makes him look menacing.

  1. Ezra Bridger – Talk about a glow-up! In Ahsoka, we see that Ezra’s not a kid anymore. He’s a full-grown Jedi with a lovely beard to boot. He’s maintained his beard well given his isolation in a different galaxy far, far away.
Ezra Bridger in Ahsoka
  1. Carson Teva – Carson’s beard gives him an approachable look, like he’s your kind uncle or dad. The subtle salt-n-pepper look is dignified, and the beard is kept in line like Carson keep the Outer Rim territories in line.
Carson Teva in Ahsoka
  1. Qui-Gon Jinn – A little wispy, a little white, 100% fire. The extra length in the font really gives Qui-Gon a little extra something-something.
Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace
  1. Father – Our first soley animated character to make the ranking. Father has the quintessential wise-old-man beard. It’s long and luscious perfection.

  1. Baze Malbus – A little salt-n-pepper, Baze’s beard is nicely trimmed. The little triangle under the lip is a thoughtful touch for this Rebel.

  1. Agent Kallus – Excellent mutton chop beard create an intimidating appearance. If you don’t consider mutton chops to be a beard, he connects them with a wee bit of chin hair once he joins the Rebels.

15. Galen Erso – We don’t see much of it, but what we see is very nice. A simple man trying to live a simple life.

Galen Erso
  1. Captain Rex – Rex’s beard was as much of a pleasant surprise as his presence was in Rebels.
Rex in Rebels
  1. Jarek Yeager – Yeager may be our only character from Resistance, but it’s a well-earned place with his long and low beard.
Jarek Yeager
  1. Kanan Jarrus – His Season 4 beard is a great addition to his character, along with the wisdom he gains as a Jedi, partner, and friend.
Kanan Jarrus
  1. Cobb Vanth – His beard is subtle, but effective. It conveys Cobb is a rugged scoundrel.
Cobb Vanth in The Book of Boba Fett
  1. Dr. Pershing – Dr. Pershing keeps his beard like he performs his work – neat and close to his person. Don’t want nefarious beings or New Republic officials getting into your hair and messing with your pursuits!
Dr Pershing in The Mandalorian
  1. Saw Guerrera – This beautiful salt-n-pepper is well kept considering the paranoid state Saw is in in Rogue One
Saw Gerrera in Rogue One
  1. Cassian Andor – His beard comes and goes throughout Andor and is rugged, just like Cassian fighting the long fight.
Cassian Andor
  1. Chewbacca – As a Wookie, Chewbacca is blessed with a whole coat of hair. It’s a lot to maintain! His facial hair may be a little scruffy, but it is iconic.
Chewbacca in Solo
  1. Bendu – We don’t really know who, or what, the Bendu is. Appearing to have some type of ape genetics giving him a limb up in the hair department, his auburn beard is impressive and imposing.
Bendu
  1. Bail Organa – Clean cut and crisp. This senator doesn’t mess around with his politics or his appearance.
Bail Prestor Organa in Revenge of the Sith

  1. Bohdi Rook– Bohdi is a bit scruffy-looking, but who wouldn’t be after fleeing the Imperial Army, being held captive by Saw Guerrera, and joining the Rebellion on an unsanctioned mission?
Bodhi Rook
  1. Zeb Orrelios – The Lasat are a threatened species, so we don’t see them much. We do see most of the males of the species have facial hair, so Zeb has a leg up on his locks. Zeb’s goatee is literally on point, cutting like the punches he throws at Imperials.
Zeb Orrelios in Rebels and The Mandalorian
  1. Greef Karga – A subtle, dignified beard gives Greef a familial look as he rebuilds Nevarro.
Greef Karga
  1. Ryder Azadi – The beards differ between Rebels and Ahsoka, showing the character age over time. (Or inconsistencies?) The animated beard is more of a goatee than a full beard, and the live action version is not as impressive as some of our other full, “elder-man” beards.
Ryder Azadi in Rebels and Ahsoka
  1. Crix Madine – This general gets a star for trying. The beard gives him a full-face hug, but it just doesn’t look great. Or like it came straight out of the weird part of the 1970s. Or both.
Crix Madine in Return of the Jedi
